Platforms & availability

What is wroom|?

wroom| (writer's room) is a new home for writers and roleplayers!

In wroom|, you can create multiple characters from a single writer account, and post as each one, managing multiple storylines and personas at once! You can add characters into "wrooms", which are shared worlds where other writers' characters live too!

Your whole cast lives under one account, so switching between characters takes a tap, not a new email and password.

Why a new platform?

wroom| is the only platform built specifically for writers and roleplayers.

Interaction patterns that work for person-to-person social media don't exactly apply to character-to-character interactions. For example, making a new character account on most platforms like Twitter or Discord either requires entirely new email/user/password combinations to memorize, or complicated server and bot management setups.

With wroom|, writers and roleplayers are no longer an afterthought, you're the main focus, with features and workflows designed specifically for character-driven storytelling.

Where will wroom| be available?

wroom| is currently available as a mobile app on Android and iOS, on both phones and tablets!

We are planning to create a web version, but our focus will be on the app for at least the next few months.

Is there an official release date?

wroom| is out now on Android and iOS! Access is opening gradually, so join our waitlist through the app to secure your spot.

Writers from our waitlist are let in gradually, in the order they joined and via referral.

Getting in: waitlist & access keys

How do I join the waitlist?

Download wroom| and select "Join our waitlist": wroom.studio.

Do I need to be in the Discord server to use wroom|?

No, but we highly recommend it! We are very active in our Discord server: we run polls and events, take feature requests, and respond directly to bug reports.

How long until I get a key?

Access keys are distributed based on your position in the waitlist.

Recent entries can expect access within a few months, unless referred by an existing writer.

Once your access key is emailed to you, it expires after 7 days, so use it soon! If yours has expired, reach out through our contact page and we'll send a new one.

Being active in the community and participating in events may also increase your chances of receiving an access key sooner, through community contests and giveaways.

I have more than one device - how does that work?

You can sign in to a single account across multiple devices. While access is opening gradually, each device needs its own access key.

However, you won't have to re-join the waitlist: once you're in, email our support at contact@wroom.studio or simply message our Discord server and we'll send a second (or third) code!

Characters

How are character accounts and writer profiles connected?

In wroom| you create a single account that manages and posts as multiple characters.

Every character links back to a verified writer account. This is required for reporting, character management, and core workflows.

This means you do not need to manage multiple handles, usernames, emails or passwords for each character. Creating a character in wroom| takes seconds.

Is there a limit on how many characters I can make?

Yes. Every writer can create up to 100 characters for free.

Supporter Pass, our optional subscription, raises that limit and adds other perks. Our goal is still to let you create as many characters for free as we can possibly support!

Wrooms

What is a wroom?

A wroom is a writer-created universe or world that characters and stories live in! Characters post from within a wroom, and wroom admins can manage the privacy, layout, and writers of a wroom.

Can two people make wrooms of the same universe? How about duplicate characters?

There is no exclusivity for wrooms or characters; multiple people will create wrooms set in the same universe/fandom, and it's up to a wroom admin whether duplicate characters are allowed.

Some public wrooms may have rules against duplicate characters to maintain consistency within the setting, and others might treat it like a multiverse.

These rules are defined at a per-wroom level, to make it really simple to see where your character may or may not fit in.

Feed, following & filtering

How does following work?

You follow writers; following a writer automatically follows all of their characters (you can unwatch individual characters at any time). You can customize your feed preferences to easily switch between specific wrooms, characters, or writers only!

Can I curate my feed - block, mute, filter words?

Yes.

Block a writer and they and all their characters leave your feed; you can also mute individual characters, wrooms and threads, and mute any word in your settings. We want every user to be able to control what they want (or don't want) to see on wroom|.

How does blocking work? Can a blocked writer still see my posts?

Blocking on wroom| goes both ways. Once you block a writer, neither of you can see the other: their posts leave your feeds, threads and search, and yours leave theirs. Their profile is closed to you, and yours is closed to them.

Blocking a writer covers every character they write, including any they make later. Neither of you can reply to or invite the other, and nothing they do will notify you.

Alternatively, you can mute a writer or character instead: muting is one-way and quiet, and they can still see your writing.

Writing & formatting

How long can a post be?

Up to 5,000 characters. Have fun writing!

What formatting is supported?

Markdown-like controls: bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, block quotes, and lists - all from our custom post editor.

Can I choose who replies to my posts?

Yes. There are many controls to manage who can reply to your posts, including per-post, per-wroom, and per-character settings. Or, leave it totally open for others to find and interact with, the choice is yours.

Images & media

Can I post images or GIFs?

Not yet.

Images are not enabled on posts until we've sorted the safety and legal guardrails - expect this on the order of months.

Videos are not currently on the roadmap.

Can I credit artists / filter makers / texture creators on my profile?

Yes. All photos uploaded to wroom| have both an alt text and a credit field for you to provide attribution of work.

Transparent profile pictures / headers? Pixel dimensions for layouts?

Transparent pfps/headers are noted for consideration and on our roadmap.

Instead of a traditional single profile picture and banner, each character in wroom| supports a sliding carousel photo gallery of 5 images. These images are in a 4:5 aspect ratio. You can select which of these 5 images to display as the primary profile picture and header.

Content, safety & moderation

Is there an age requirement?

Yes, wroom| is for writers 13+.

Mature content is blocked for users under 18, and we treat every install as under-18 until age is declared and validated.

Every writer gives their date of birth during onboarding, and it can only be set once. We also withhold explicit content or access in a region until we can meet its obligations.

What does the MDNI / mature marker do?

It fully blocks minors and anyone who opts out of mature content from seeing that content.

It can be applied at the writer, wroom, character, or post level.

There are also content warnings and per-user word muting.

Is NSFW / smut allowed? What else is not allowed?

Text-based mature content is allowed. Images that show explicit sexual acts, genitalia as the subject, extreme violence or gore are prohibited. For more on what is allowed and not allowed on wroom|, see our Terms: wroom.studio/legal/terms.

Using a character as a mask for real harm - threats or harassment of real people, hate, or anything sexualising minors - is explicitly prohibited.

What about CSAM and bad actors?

Zero tolerance.

Images and writing are checked automatically by image classification and multi-layer analysis, which raise flags to an internal review dashboard reviewed by wroom|'s moderation team, with an appeals process, so that every report is reviewed thoroughly.

We will not tolerate any form of CSAM or abuse on the platform, and any violations will be met with immediate legal and administrative action.

Is there a reporting system?

Yes - reporting is fully operational today.

What ads will I see?

wroom| is a home for writers, and we will not trade your comfort for higher-paying ads.

Every ad on wroom| is capped at a teen rating, for every account, whatever your age, blocking mature advertisements.

We also block the following sensitive ad categories outright: references to sex, sexual & reproductive health, dating, gambling & betting, social casino games, alcohol, drugs & supplements, weight loss, cosmetic procedures & body modification, religion, and get-rich-quick schemes.

Ratings and categories only work when advertisers label their ads honestly, so we watch what actually reaches the feed. Any advertiser or ad network caught slipping suggestive ads past those labels is cut off from wroom| entirely. We would rather earn less than show you ads that make this place feel less like home.

If an ad ever feels out of place, press and hold it to report it. We will take action promptly to ensure it does not disrupt yours and other writers' experience.

What's your stance on AI-generated content?

wroom| is not an AI company and will not sell itself out as an AI company. You will not see "wroom|AI" or similar products inside the app, and we will not build AI writing tools or character creation tools into wroom|. The core of wroom|'s mission is to build a platform for writer creativity and expression, and that cannot happen if AI is doing the writing for you.

wroom| will never use generative AI for creative content such as writing, logos, artwork or images, whether in-app or for promotional and marketing material.

Your writing and your data will never be sold or used to train generative AI models, unlike current big tech companies. Where applied as extensions to our human developers' tools, AI coding assistants are used for bug detection, feature testing and security reviews, entirely on our own source code. This means these assistants never touch your writing, and nothing you write will ever be used to train generative AI models.

We will also never knowingly promote AI-generated wrooms or writing throughout the app. That said, we cannot pretend we can detect generated text or images 100% of the time, and we will not ban or moderate writers solely for using these tools themselves. Instead you have moderation tools of your own - character-level and writer-level muting and blocking - to filter out content you believe to be AI-generated.

We are also exploring ways to keep AI from flooding the app, such as spam moderation and blocking suspicious fake accounts. We want everyone writing with real people, not AI bots. Every writer on wroom| today is real, and we hope to keep it that way.

Who can access my data?

Third parties don't reach, train on, or retain your data, except where explicitly required by infrastructure we have privacy agreements with (e.g. our database provider).

Can I write as public figures/real-life celebrities?

Characters inspired by public figures or media (anime, comics, wrestling promotions) are ordinary fiction and are fine.

Impersonating a real person, organisation, or platform - or passing fiction off as genuine - is not allowed on wroom|. For example, a character pretending to be a real-life celebrity or political figure will be considered a violation of our rules. However, a character from fictional media is supported.

This ensures that creative expression remains safe and respectful of real individuals.

Costs & business model

How is wroom| funded? Will there be ads or a paid tier?

wroom| is 100% free to use for all users. We run discreet, in-feed ads to help cover backend costs, similar to other social platforms, and we've worked to keep them unobtrusive.

Supporter Pass is an optional monthly subscription with perks like a 100% ad-free experience, aimed at power users - which in turn lets us offer higher limits to everyone else.

Our goal is to provide an amazing free experience for all users, with as many characters as most people can manage. We'll share more on the exact limits and details as they are finalized.
